It looks like a sex offender with a conviction for what he did to a child may have been let into the Bujinkan via a home study course.
Last Thursday I was made aware that a man called Darrell Roath, who had been talking in a Bujinkan group about going through the 9th kyu material of Bushindo University, an online instruction course set up by Richard Von Donk. The person that told me this found out Roath was a convicted sex offender. His crime was sexual indecency with a child with contact, and the age of his victim was five.
I doubt he used or will use his real name for signing up for the distance learning course. I have run across too many cases where people are convicted under one name, and then use another for martial arts. So I am including photos of him as well as links to the important information. He was convicted in Texas and is now in Maine, probably as part of an attempt to escape people knowing about his past. He also lived in at least California since his crime, so he gets around a few steps ahead of his past.
But first of all, if you run across someone on Facebook that you know is on a sex offenders list, here is the link to report them and get them thrown out. I have used it more times that I am comfortable with. But the guy that told me about Roath didn’t seem to even know that Facebook will ban anyone like him. Neither did the admin of the group, who merely tossed him out.

What you need to use the above link is the URL of their profile on Facebook and a link to the sex offender list they are on, or an article talking about them being on one. In Roath’s case, I was able to link to both the sex offender list and an article detailing his legal trouble for failing to register when he moved.
Yeah, he tried to avoid being known as a sex offender when he last moved. That tells me something about him, and it isn’t good.
My fear is that, using a new name, Roath will set himself up as an instructor in some way. I have dealt in past blogs with Ralph Hall, who also got a membership card from Von Donk and set himself up as an instructor. He later seduced a very underaged student.
Roath may show up to seminars just to have his picture taken with other Bujinkan folks. I am posting photos of him at the very bottom of this below, because I have trouble with pictures covering text otherwise. Right now he is in Maine, but he has moved before. If I find out he is in a new location, I will try to update this. Bujinkan people within a few hundred miles of him should be made aware that he may show up to something.
Yes, there are rules against people with serious criminal offenses being allowed to join the Bujinkan. But some folks will bend the rules and let in felons because their checks will clear with the bank. And in distance learning courses, it is just too difficult to determine if someone is really who they say they are. Sadly, people must really do their homework now before leaving their kids with a martial arts instructor.
Here is his listing on the sex offender list.
Here is his listing from when he was in Texas.

Here is the article showing that he tried to avoid registering as a sex offender.
Recent photos of him way below. (So as to avoid them covering any text.)
